The best robot vacuum will vacuum and mop your floors without having to be involved. It will also leave them spotless. Its price is affordable and its high-end functions (such as a dirt detector) are positives.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to produce precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. They also come with a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.
Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and create more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, and cleans and drys mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. automatic vacuum cleaner has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the degree of dirt they are.
If you own a larger home, it is worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have lot furniture. The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It is equipped with an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
